Towels

Eighty towels in gauze, pile and waffle — bath towels, hand towels, face washers, hair towels and towel handkerchiefs. UCHINO has been weaving cloth since 1937, and the first Japanese towel with a name woven into it came out of this house in 1950. Any towel here can be embroidered with a name.

Shiho

140-count single yarn — about one-seventh the thickness of ordinary towel cotton — woven roughly six times as densely, in an extra-long pile. Shiho is what happens when the yarn and the loom are both pushed as far as they go.

100-count fine yarn, woven light. The Shiawase range is the everyday end of UCHINO's fine-yarn weaving.

Super Marshmallow

Zero-twist yarn, left untwisted so the cotton keeps its loft. UCHINO measures it taking up water in about a second, against a standard cotton towel.

Unbleached organic cotton gauze, dyed with pigment drawn from grapes left after the wine is pressed, from spent coffee grounds, and from tea leaves. Woven double-faced — gauze on one side, pile on the other — and the colour deepens a little…
