Bath Towels
Woven from finer cotton yarn than an ordinary towel, so they are softer, more absorbent and lighter on the rail. Most are 70 × 140 cm; the small 50 × 100 size has its own page.

Twenty-two full-size towels is still a lot to compare. Pick the one thing you care about most — each answer is a single towel, and every UCHINO towel page lists its yarn, weave and size.
Shiawase is spun at 100 count — about a fifth the thickness of ordinary towel yarn — for a fine, yielding pile.
Airy Touch uses ultra-fine untwisted pile, woven thin and dense: a full-size towel that weighs noticeably less.
Super Marshmallow begins to sink into water in under a second in UCHINO’s own test, where an ordinary towel sits on the surface.
Quick Dry Tint is UCHINO’s towel for flats with no line and seasons when washing will not dry: a light, open pile that dries fast after washing.
Full and soft, woven from organic cotton selected for its long staple.
Sea Island cotton — the fibre known as the jewel of cotton — with zero-twist pile. Shiho, at 140 count, is the finest yarn a towel can be woven from.

Why UCHINO
Not a story about luxury. A story about yarn.
UCHINO began as a textile business in 1937 and was established in Tokyo in 1947. By its own account it was the first in Japan to weave names into jacquard towels (1950) and launched what it describes as the world’s first printed towels (1955). Towels are what the company has done longest.
Ordinary towels are woven from ordinary towel yarn. Shiawase is spun at 100 count, Shiho at 140 — around a fifth and a seventh of the usual thickness. Finer yarn means more threads in the same space: Shiho is woven at about six times the usual density. That is where the softness comes from, and why it lasts.
Laid on water, Shiawase and Super Marshmallow begin to take it up in under a second. Beauty Skincare leaves under a tenth as much lint in the wash. These are UCHINO’s own measurements against a standard cotton towel, not independent tests — we say so wherever we quote them.

Most UCHINO Bath Towels are 70 × 140 cm. Small Bath Towels are 50 × 100 or 60 × 100 cm; Shiho is 75 × 150 cm and Quick Dry Tint 65 × 130 cm. Japanese sizes run narrower and longer than Australian ones — see our size guide, and check the product page for the exact figure.
Pile is the classic looped towel: fuller in the hand. Gauze is a flat weave: lighter, and it dries faster between uses, which matters in a bathroom with no ventilation. Gauze-and-pile reversibles give you both faces. The full comparison.
Wash separately for the first few washes — a new towel sheds, and dark colours can cloud the water. Skip fabric softener: it coats the pile and costs you absorbency. Avoid chlorine bleach on coloured pieces. Full care notes are on every product page, and here is why towels go stiff.
Yes. Choose embroidery on the product page: up to 8 letters, numbers or spaces, stitched on the hem band in your choice of lettering and thread colour, for $10. It does not delay dispatch. Embroidered pieces are made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged unless faulty. How embroidery works.
