Questions

Answers are based on our product specifications and current Australian store and shipping policies.

What sizes are UCHINO towels in Australia?

Most UCHINO Bath Towels are 70 × 140 cm. Small Bath Towel products in the range include 50 × 100 cm and 60 × 100 cm. Our Face Washers are generally 34 × 40 cm, with looped styles at 30 × 30 cm; our Hand Towels are generally 34 × 80–85 cm. Check the individual product page for the exact size, as the dimensions vary by style. Our Japanese and Australian towel size guide explains the comparison.

Is a UCHINO Guest Towel the same as an Australian face washer?

For Australian customers, UCHINO’s products originally categorised as Guest Towel are presented in our Face Washers collection. The closest common size is 34 × 40 cm, while looped styles can be 30 × 30 cm. The exact dimensions are shown on each product page. “Guest Towel” is the original UCHINO category name; “Face Washer” is the customer-facing Australian category.

Is a UCHINO Face Towel a hand towel?

For Australian customers, UCHINO’s products originally categorised as Face Towel are presented in our Hand Towels collection. They are generally 34 × 80–85 cm, a longer and narrower shape than the 40 × 60–65 cm hand-towel dimensions shown in Australian retail size guides. Check the individual product page for the exact size. “Face Towel” remains the original UCHINO category name in the product data.

What is the difference between a gauze towel and a pile towel?

Pile has raised loops that hold water, so it is the familiar choice when you want more absorbency from the cloth. Gauze is a light, open weave with no raised loops, so it uses less cloth and tends to dry and fold more quickly. Some UCHINO products combine gauze on one side with pile on the other. Read our gauze versus pile guide for the construction and use cases.

How should I wash UCHINO towels?

Follow the Care section on the individual product page because constructions can differ. As general care, wash towels separately for the first few washes, avoid fabric softener for the first few washes, and do not use chlorine bleach on coloured items. If a towel becomes stiff or less absorbent, our laundry guide explains the evidence behind the advice.

Can UCHINO towels be embroidered with a name?

Yes, where the product page shows the embroidery option. UCHINO’s embroidery service covers towels, robes, sleepwear and baby pieces; our apparel pieces and soft toys cannot be embroidered. Visit How embroidery works for the current choices and ordering steps.

How do I order name embroidery?

Add the product to your cart, then press Add embroidery underneath that item in the cart. You choose the name, lettering style and thread colour one piece at a time, and check the spelling before confirming. This means you can personalise two items in a three-item order without adding embroidery to the third.

How much does embroidery cost and how many characters can I use?

Name embroidery is $10 per piece. The current service accepts up to eight characters, including letters, numbers and spaces, with four lettering styles and fifteen thread colours. The name is stitched as typed, so check the spelling before you confirm.

How long do embroidered orders take to dispatch?

Adding embroidery does not delay dispatch. Our standard dispatch times apply. For delivery estimates after dispatch, see our shipping policy.

Can I return an embroidered towel?

Embroidered pieces are made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged for change of mind unless faulty. If an item arrives faulty, damaged in transit or significantly different from its description, contact us within 30 days of delivery with your order number and photographs. Nothing in the policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. See the full refund policy.

Do you ship UCHINO towels across Australia?

The current delivery estimate is 1–4 business days after dispatch; orders are dispatched on business days and tracking is emailed once dispatched.
